I'm Looking - A Revolution In The Dating Game

Opportunity Snapshot

Investment Opportunity

The project is centered on solving one simple issue.

Completing links between completely random people that cross paths, make a connection, and then never speak again.

I'm aiming to create a new breed of dating service - detached from the stigma that surrounds the use of such websites.

Full Concept:

Imagine you get the same train to work every day for a whole year. You wake up at 6am, eat your breakfast, and arrive on time at your local station to make your daily commute. You have noticed a really attractive woman sitting just two seats in front of you that you have never seen before. You have been having a bad week, but your determined not to let today set the tone for your weekend. You walk over, and ask “would you mind if I sat here?”

She replies, “no of course not, be my guest”. In the next 20 minutes you discover; you have vacationed at the same resorts, you both went to the same secondary school, and you have much more in common than simply catching the same train.
Out of nowhere, you suddenly realise you’re at your stop. You don’t have any time to ask for her number, or give her your business card. You were so caught up in the conversation; you can’t even remember her name.

If only there was some sort of way to find out who she was, whether you might have been compatible, and whether you could continue that conversation?
ImLooking is a mobile application that will solve this simple problem.

How does it work?

ImLooking will track your location throughout your day and present you with people you may have crossed paths with that also run the app. You will have the ability to filter these results by demographic, and also search by a larger radius. In order to create an account, you must complete a psychometric test that will quantify your personality so that it can be instantly compared with those around you. Therefore, should you have passed someone you would love to get back in touch with, you can easily view their profile and make contact.

The service will also offer a ‘lighthouse’ feature – whereby when you come into close contact with someone you will both be notified of you compatibility should you fit each other’s specification. I don’t think I can think of a better ice-breaker. With this in mind, you will know whether it’s worth taking the risk to approach the attractive woman sat two rows in front of you.

Should you have met someone you can also broadcast (in the form of an update) that you would like to talk again – providing the other individuals privacy settings are such that you are unable to locate them in your ‘encountered’ feed. Following an update, and assuming the other individual wishes to make contact – they can easily find you. Updates can also add a ‘geo-location’ that will aid readers in identifying if the update is specifically about them.

In addition to the ‘lighthouse’ feature, users can broadcast simple suggestions – such as “Blond city girl craving a cappuccino – I’m in Starbucks come and find me?” Users will also hold the option to only allow psychometrically paired users to read your update – to ensure a potentially interesting conversation. The idea behind the site is to bridge the gap between conventional dating sites, and the real world – in real time.

Competitive Advantage

There is currently no service like this available today.

Real time dating sites centered on University Campus’ have proven to be extremely popular in the last 12 months.

I believe there is unlimited potential when considering the number of people that commute to work, travel internationally, and wish to meet like-minded people when clubbing or pursuing their daily routine.

If the service is viewed as a means to keep a look out for partners that might fit your liking, opposed to paying a subscription fee to actively seek out and pursue potential partners – I believe the stigma associated with a dating service will diminish. This will encourage the use of the site by the younger generation – similar to the demographic of university campus’.

Assuming there are approximately 1000 students at 100 universities in the UK who use the app. Say 10% decide to send a message (at 10p) to a potential partner on a given day, this will generate £1000/day. If the service reaches this status, the likelihood is that is will spread rapidly via work of mouth and social media.

I’m seeking investment as I currently have limited capital, and am looking to pay off my student loans as quickly as possible by pursuing this project.

Rationale for the deal

As of July I will be a graduate, and am hoping to take on the project full time. I’m looking for an investor that is willing to contribute £30,000 for 40% of the business. At present the project is in very early stages.

Use of financing

Financing will be used primarily for development, and the launch of the service. I do not intend to take pay from the company until the service is developed.
