The project requires funding for the final design stage and setting up of a production plant and a lab for low-cost ultrafast fiber lasers for medical / industrial use.
The lasers will sell at USD 10,000 and 30,000. Some 80% of the project has been completed based on a US short-pulse laser technology. The key patents have already been registered.
The low-cost Ultrafast Fiber laser is the first ever of its kind and can be used in scientific, biomedical, medical, semiconductor inspection, material processing and many other applications. The previous-generation technology with similar capability is still being sold at USD 400,000, while our product would sell for between USD 10,000 and 30,000 depending on the specific markets. We hold the key patents.
The funds will be used to start a lab in China to finalize the last 20% of the design of the laser and for setting up a production line. In this way the key process will be vertically integrated and will defeat any future competition.
Year 1 --> projected sales $600,000 USD
Year 2 --> Projected sales $2.875M USD
Year 3 --> Projected sales $7.75M USD
From Year 4 the business will take off on a larger scale.
Exit strategy options:
1. Acquisition by a large existing laser manufacturer that does not have fiber-laser or pulsed laser expertise but wants to expand into this space.
2. Acquisition by a potential customer (requiring penetration into biotech, pharmacology or related fields).
3. Developing and maintaining high product sales followed by a stock-market listing (IPO)
