Coal-fired power plants currently fuel 41% of global electricity. In India itself 68 % of electricity is produced by coal fired power plants. A major percentage of NE Coal is supplied to brick chambers in (Basirhat (WB), Ghaziabad (UP), Punjab, Orissa, etc. and Cement Industries in Assam and Meghalaya (TopCem, Surya, Bokajan, CMCL, Adhunik, Taj, Barak Cement are the major players in NE India)
